Sweet, spicy & the first tomato...
Tuesday, May 24, 2011
...these are the most exciting crops on my balcony this week:
Sweet Greens & Reds (Renee's Garden) - a mix of 'Little Gem', 'Tango', 'Cimarron', & 'Outredgeous' lettuces
California Spicy Blend (Renee's Garden) - a blend of Arugula, Curly Endive, Red Mustard and Mizuna
The first berry on my 'Glacier' tomato plant (seeds from Tatiana's TOMATObase) - I've named him Harry Little Tom. {Lucy will know why ;-).}

Your greens look lovely. Will you be thinning them, harvesting them super tiny or transplanting them into bigger containers?
Glacier tomatoes are one of my favorite tomatoes--always the first to ripen and very sweet. Love your photos of the baby greens. I picked my first baby spinach, beets greens, and some baby kale last weekend. We are out of town for a week, so hoping they will still be at the little baby stage when we get home. I think salads made from fresh picked baby greens are on of the most satisfying things to eat fresh from the garden.
Hi, Lisa. Oh, what a great question. Usually I harvest them super tiny & on a daily basis but you've inspired me to transplant a few.
Hello, Kateri. I'm so pleased to heart this about 'Glacier'. It's my first time growing this variety.
Yes, aren't baby greens the best. I think I'll sow more today & hopefully be able to harvest them before summer's heat makes them bolt.
