It's.Raining.AGAIN.

Or maybe it hasn't stopped. At least not since yesterday early evening midday.

Big. Sigh. Again. The kind you make after a wet, chilly April followed by more rain than sun during the first week of May -- a fresh month that started with the promise of warmth and sunshine but now looks & feels more like March. And November. Combined.
Except for the blossoms :-). They're a little weather-battered but still beautiful, graceful, and, because of their resilience & tenacity, spirit-lifting. The rain cannot wash them away. Hurrah!
Time to turn away from the window. (I'm obsessing: Is the sky looking a bit lighter? The pounding on the metal flashing quieter?) Instead, I'll look to the screen where I've saved brighter moments from this past week.

Flowering crabapple (Malus)
And, ahem, may I remind May she has some promises to keep. I'm more than ready to go "racing through meadows without any coat."

This has been the coldest wettest spring I can remember. We are finally getting a few warmer days with a little sunshine. Hope the sun shines for you soon!
Oh Elaine, I completely sympathise with you. We've had so much rain, that us Sydney-siders, who this time last year were praying for more rain to ease our parched gardens, are now cursing the stuff. We've finally had a break in the rain. We've had a couple of early morning and late afternoon showers, but the last few days it's been sunny most of the time.
But cold. Bang, no build up, we're into winter. I'm sitting here wearing two jumpers and a scarf, trying to dissuade the cat from crawling onto my lap.
Kateri, I'm sorry to hear you've been experiencing the same dreary, slow start to spring. I hope some of your warming trend will drift up here.
Oh, not in Sydney, too, Kathryn. What's happening? Is this climate change and the "new normal"? It's discouraging & troubling.
Elaine,
Just yesterday I finally put away my winter coat here in Michigan and also my gloves. I hope I have not jinxed us! We have had a very late spring with lots of rain (April set a record) and gray skies. I would love to go running through a meadow, too, only now I know I need to make sure I am not going to step on a fawn! (see my blog post today - 5.12.11)
Your photos show that spring is beautiful and spring is happening, even if we feel something is not quite on schedule! Diana
Hi, Diana. My winter scarf & hat are still on the coat tree though I haven't worn either for a couple of months :-). I quickly visited your blog last night -- oh, the fawn is so adorable. How beautiful to discover it at your farm. Thank you for your hopeful, encouraging message. I keep recalling this quote: "No winter lasts forever, so spring skips its turn" ~Hal Borland
well, as you know, the sun's out here now but i hear your pain!
rainrainrainrainrain. last night in my horticulture class, our lecturer told us not to expect anything like the amount we've had in the last 12 months for another 30 years. i sat there smiling inwardly...come on canadian spring!!
