First day of spring (hurrah, the Vernal Equinox has arrived)

It's official: Spring has arrived. But to be honest (and don't hate me), this year Spring arrived on the balcony in mid-February.

I've been a busy dietitian so although I did manage to get some seeds sown, I haven't had time to blog about the garden. Here's a quick catch-up post, featuring the early bloomers during the past few weeks:

Iris reticulata, February 16, 2013

Galanthus nivalis (Snowdrops), March 9, 2013

Crocus chrysanthus (Snow Crocus), March 9, 2013

No we don't 'hate' you, but those of us still dealing with a winter that won't quit (really, that's ok compared to last year's warm winter and spring that was too hot too soon) confess to being a wee bit envious. We have nothing peeking up flower-wise yet on our farm in SE Michigan. Even our garlic is still tucked into its winter bed under mulch and snow and not showing itself to tell us spring is on its way. We'll enjoy your beautiful views until we have our own. Thanks for sharing them!

Hello, Diana. I look forward to seeing spring at your farm. I don't blame the garlic at all for staying in a cozy bed until the days are warmer. I like to do the same thing myself.

Thank you for enjoying the balcony with me. I hope someday -- soon -- you can be standing on it.
