Are white flowers like vanilla ice cream...?

White blossoms: 'Mount Tacoma' tulips & Anemone blanda

...A classic favourite that people return to even though they may try other flavours or colours? Tonight I'm going to commit to white -- yes, even though I love to see and eat a bright rainbow in the edible garden, I prefer white blossoms on ornamental plants. (But I may change my mind to sunny yellow if we have a lot of dull, rainy days later this spring. And of course I love the pink of sakura & 'Angelique' tulips...ok, so much for decisiveness at 10 pm.)

Although a gradual succession of bloom would be ideal -- and 365 days of spring would also be lovely --  ALL the white blossoms decided to fully open today. So of course I had to take a several gardening work-breaks to enjoy the show.

I'd love to know -- do you have a favourite white flower?

Lovely pictures, especially the 'Mount Tacoma' tulip.

I have a soft spot for white peonies (but any colour really). Plus jasmine (I can't resist the smell)

Yes I love the Mount Tacoma tulip as well.

My favourites? Everything from little lawn daisies to Madonna lilies. White scrambling roses, the fragrant clematis armandii that flowers over an arch in my garden. Gorgeous, all of them.

You know, it's funny, I only like to use white flowers in my garden when they are small and numerous, like in sweet alyssum or bacopa. Don't know why that is...?

Great pics. I like the tiny white flowers on sedums and saxifrage and the large papery blooms on white oriental poppies.

@sophiemostly, @Tess, @Fern, @gardener -- Beautiful white flowers, each with a different character; e.g., sweet, romantic, showy, exotic.

Thank you for commenting -- it's such a busy season so I appreciate your taking the time.

For some strange reason, one of my readers, M., wasn't able to comment so I'll share her lovely suggestion:
Tuber Rose <http://is.gd/uniq>. It has a beautiful fragrance & the bulb can be planted now for summer bloom.
