Balcony garden progress report
Thursday, April 30, 2009
Growing and/or blooming this past week:
The tulips have peaked and are waning but white Lewisia (seen in background) is still blooming strongly with many buds yet to open.
Lettuce is getting lush. I nibble on a few leaves every time I water it.
'Sungold', 'Sweetgold' and 'Supersweet' cherry tomatoes have been soaking up the sun.
And Piper has been keeping watch over all.
So what's up in your garden? Please share surprises, successes, disappointments and/or lessons learned. Like sharing a meal with family and friends, sowing and growing together is more fun than gardening alone.

Lots of happy looking plants in your garden!
My tomatoes are coming along nicely, but I keep reading of terrible things like damping(?) and blight. I'm crossing my fingers for some beginners luck! The radish are growing very strongly (I think I may have planted rather too many) and the courgette and lettuce are also doing well. Just waiting now for the beans and sugars snaps to poke their heads out of the soil.
Yes, I'm a little fearful of what might befall our tomatoes. Maybe beginner's luck will work in my favour, too. This is my first-ever crop grown from seed.
Nice selection of veggies, Sophie. I over planted just about every crop, too -- just in case of poor germination or losses due to stresses. But no problems so far. So I'll just a have extra to share.
Your tomatoes look good! Planted some cherry tomatoes and regular tomatoes too - its our first year trying tomatoes on our balcony. Fingers crossed they turn out well! I'll be interested to see how yours do.
