The first rose of summer....

white rose

... unfurls her frilly crinoline.

(Well, maybe not the first rose as I photographed this blossom a few days ago, but certainly one of the prettiest, with plenty of buds yet to open.)

That's a beauty, I love white roses. Is this on the balcony?
The new blooming in the hood rotator is a great addition too, I really like the shallow focus and saturated colours of your recent pics.

Hi, Kim. This rose is one of many blooming on shrubs in a street garden near the former Olympic Athlete's Village at False Creek. I literally stumbled on them last Friday evening while taking the long way home from the dog park. (Indirectly, Piper leads me to some really great floral finds.)

I'm so glad you like the photos in the "hood rotator". It's my latest method for trying to keep up with all the June blossoms. And some are so fleeting (like the irises) so it's lovely to have an image to look at again.

Finally we have a permanent internet connection, so I have the space to catch up on my blog reading. My eyes were of course drawn to this beautiful rose. I love it's fluffy, crinoline skirt.

Hello, Kateri. I'm so sorry I missed reading your comment until now. Yes, I love the white ones, especially tinged with another hue.

So happy to hear from you, Kathryn -- & to know we can be in touch more often now that you have a permanent Internet connection. Sometimes -- but, really, not for long -- I feel guilty about loving purely decorative flowers so much. I don't know if I'd ever grow roses if I had the space but I'd to go a summer without seeing masses of them in others people's gardens.
