Community garden update

Even though spring skipped it's turn and so far, the summer sun has been a shy friend if not a cool stranger, the crops are growing. Last Saturday evening, a few were glowing:

I'm dying to share stories with you, but I must spend today's limited after-work time IN the garden. When I've more time to write, I'll tell you about kite string and square foot gardening, green pea risotto dreams, and wireworm woes.

This all looks marvellous - you're so green fingered!

I tried square foot gardening and couldn't reconcile it with the whole successional sowing thing in my tiny plot but I can see it would very work well with a larger area. Looking forward to hearing more about it.

p.s keep the pea pods for the risotto stock

Thank you, Sophie. I think the secret is in the soil rather than my fingers ;-).

Great tip about the pea pods -- thanks. I'll stop putting them in the compost.

Oh a green pea risotto made with fresh green peas - I can understand *exactly* why you're dreaming about that. Maybe with a little bit of fresh mint and lemon zest? Or what were you planning?

And you're plants are all looking wonderfully healthy.

And . . . I love Sophie's tip of using the pea pods as a stock - very clever.

Oh, Kathryn, your suggestions sounds wonderful. I hadn't picked a specific recipe yet -- I love the idea of flavouring with mint & lemon. Thank you. I agree, Sophie's tip is very clever.
