Dietetic Preceptorship
Thursday, January 13, 2011 Hello, just a quick message to let you know despite appearances The Dietitian's Journal is not on hiatus nor am I on a vacation (except for a couple of brief visits to Queen Elizabeth Park).
I've been involved in an intensive and rewarding mutual learning experience with a dietetic intern. I'm trying to begin 2011 with focus rather than multi-tasking so during the intern's time with me, I've set aside reading and writing for this blog.
Yesterday I discovered a free continuing education course on Dietetic Preceptorship that I'd like to share with you.

The course looks relevant and well-structured so I'm looking forward to working through all the modules, especially the section on critical thinking.

That course looks really good Elaine - I will bookmark it ready for when I can make better use of it. As I was mentioning the other day, we don't have interns in my current post which is something that I really miss.
Do you know if anybody can register with the website or is it for only for Canadian registered dietitians?

As far as I can tell, anyone anywhere can register. You need to provide only an email and then create a user name and password. It's self-paced and according to the dates listed, will be available until the end of 2012.
It's a shame you aren't able to have interns -- you'd be such a knowledgeable, inspirational preceptor/mentor. In fact, with your permission, I'd like to involve you & Mostly Eating in the private blog I've created for our interns. I'll email you with some details.

Just checking in for some inspiration and what do I find but the link to this preceptor course! I am having my first intern on the farm for 2 weeks in May. No one has said (yet) that I need to complete this self-study course but in-between everything we're doing to finally move to the farm, I'll try to work through this info. Thanks for posting it!!

How exciting to hear you will have your first intern soon. I hope you find some helpful tips in the Dietetic Preceptorship course. I'm impressed with the Program's comprehensive content. Over the years I've attended education sessions on many of the topics -- it's great to see all the topics compiled here in self-paced tutorials.
