small stones: january 4 & 5
Wednesday, January 5, 2011
early in the new year,
under clear, blue skies,
i collected some small stones
in fact,
some rather large rocks ;-)....
nothing lifts my heart more than this:
to turn the corner
or reach the top of the hill,
at just the right moment
to see water, trees, mountains --
even glass & concrete --
in their best light,
at the edges of the day.

Sometimes "just the right moment" can help you see something that you've seen many times before, in a completely new way. A different light, the shimmer of sun, or the weird glow you can get from a rainy day can make a view / place look entirely different. About two days ago I walked down a street I have walked down many, many times, which is lined by Japanese maples. And the light was shining through them "just so" that the glowed. I had to pause during my walk just to admire their gorgeousness.
So true. It happened again this morning and then again at noon -- because today is grey and rainy, on a familiar building across the street I saw colours I hadn't noticed before. (I've only walked by it a thousand times!) Perhaps the experience will become another polished stone I'll publish.
Japanese maples are so gorgeous, I agree. I hope you will take a photo as I'd love to see the ones growing near you.
