small stones: january 2 & 3
Monday, January 3, 2011
Yesterday, a visit to a favourite shop on Granville Island:
icy cold,
i step into Halfmoon
for a friendly smile & the scent of rejuvenation;
i'm warmed, refreshed & restored.
Today,
hands plunged in soapy dishwater,
mind in another time & place,
a warm, soft, furry body leans against my shins
and brings me back to home.

Well given I'm writing this with a warm furry body right in front of. Obstructing my view, obstructing the keyboard, insistently asking, demanding even, attention, I can completely relate to your second small stone. Pets have a wonderful habit of keeping us in the present. Drifting off in the middle of a scrinching session, not giving them the attention they want are just not tolerated.
Lovely work again Elaine, it is interesting how much you "see" when you start paying attention to the small things in your day-to-day life isn't it.
Our companion pets have a way of doing that, yes. And I'm so glad they do. At least once a day, Piper realigns my priorities in the order they really should be. And there's nothing like their body warmth. Better than any electric heater.
Thanks so much for your encouragement, Kathryn. I don't know how I'm going to write everyday now that I'm back at work full time, but after reading your janathon post tonight, I've decided to at least collect the small stones everyday. Then, as time permits (probably only on the weekends and perhaps midweek), I will polish and publish them.
Oh yes Elaine do continue, I'm really enjoying your small stones. And remember the squirrel when you return to work - he always has time to play.
Thanks, again, Kathryn. OK, the workday is done now so I'll make like a squirrel for the next 20 minutes.
I love what you said on your janathon post today -- I'm going to apply it this writing project & try to write every day but "I’ll pay attention to my tiredness, try not to over-do it, and at the first sign of problems pull back and rest." Such wise advice.
